Everything you need to know to master Ticklyst and boost your productivity.

Getting Started

First Steps

  1. Try the Demo: Click "Try The Demo" to explore Ticklyst with sample data
  2. Purchase a Plan: Choose Monthly ($6/mo) or Lifetime ($49)
  3. Create Your Account: Sign up with your email address
  4. Start Adding Tasks: Click "+ Add Task" to create your first task

Interface Overview

  • Sidebar (Left): Navigation between views, profile, and settings
  • Main Area: Task list for the current view
  • Top Bar: Search, filters, and quick actions
  • Bottom Panel: Statistics and Pomodoro timer

Working with Tasks

Creating a Task

  1. Click "+ Add Task" in any view
  2. Enter task name (required)
  3. Add description (optional)
  4. Set priority: High (red), Medium (yellow), Low (green)
  5. Add due date and time estimate
  6. Add tags for organization
  7. Click "Add Task" to save

Editing a Task

  • Click on any task to open the edit panel
  • Update any field
  • Changes save automatically
  • Click "×" or press Escape to close

Task Actions

  • Complete: Click the checkbox to mark complete
  • Edit: Click the task to open edit panel
  • Delete: Click delete icon in edit panel
  • Duplicate: Use the duplicate button to copy a task

Task Properties

  • Priority: High (urgent), Medium (normal), Low (when time permits)
  • Due Date: Set deadlines to stay on track
  • Time Estimate: How long will this take? (in minutes)
  • Tags: Categorize with #work, #personal, #urgent, etc.
  • Description: Add notes, context, or details

Views

Today

Focus on what needs to be done today. Shows tasks due today and overdue tasks.

Best for: Daily planning and execution

7-Day Forecast

See your upcoming week organized by day. Plan ahead and balance your workload.

Best for: Weekly planning and time management

Upcoming

All tasks with due dates, sorted chronologically. Get the big picture of what's ahead.

Best for: Long-term planning and deadline tracking

Board

Kanban-style board with columns: To Do, In Progress, Done. Drag and drop tasks between columns.

Best for: Visual thinkers and project management

Inbox

Quick capture for all tasks. Process later and move to appropriate projects/dates.

Best for: Capturing ideas and organizing later

Subtasks

Creating Subtasks

  1. Open a task in the edit panel
  2. Scroll to the "Subtasks" section
  3. Click "+ Add Subtask"
  4. Enter subtask name
  5. Click "Add" or press Enter

Managing Subtasks

  • Complete: Click checkbox to mark subtask complete
  • Delete: Click "×" next to subtask
  • Progress: Parent task shows completion percentage

Best Practices

  • Break complex tasks into 3-7 subtasks
  • Keep subtasks actionable and specific
  • Use subtasks to track multi-step processes

File Attachments

Attaching Files

  1. Open a task in the edit panel
  2. Scroll to "Attachments" section
  3. Click "Choose File" or drag and drop
  4. Select file from your computer
  5. File is stored locally in your browser

Supported File Types

  • Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG
  • Documents: PDF, TXT, DOC, DOCX
  • Spreadsheets: XLS, XLSX, CSV
  • Other: ZIP, JSON, etc.

Important Notes

  • Files stored locally using IndexedDB
  • No file size limit (within browser storage limits)
  • Files not synced to cloud (local only)
  • Backup your data regularly

Pomodoro Timer

What is Pomodoro?

The Pomodoro Technique breaks work into focused intervals (typically 25 minutes) separated by short breaks. This helps maintain focus and prevent burnout.

Using the Timer

  1. Click the timer icon (🍅) in the bottom panel
  2. Set your work interval (default: 25 minutes)
  3. Set your break interval (default: 5 minutes)
  4. Click "Start" to begin
  5. Work until the timer rings
  6. Take your break when prompted

Customizing Intervals

  • Work intervals: 15-60 minutes
  • Break intervals: 5-15 minutes
  • Long break after 4 pomodoros
  • Adjust in Profile Settings

Tips for Success

  • Eliminate distractions before starting
  • Use Focus Mode during pomodoros
  • Actually take your breaks
  • Track pomodoros in Statistics

Focus Mode

What is Focus Mode?

Focus Mode hides everything except your current task, eliminating distractions and helping you concentrate on one thing at a time.

Activating Focus Mode

  • Click the focus icon in the top bar
  • Or press F keyboard shortcut
  • Select a task to focus on
  • Press Escape to exit

Best Practices

  • Use with Pomodoro Timer for maximum focus
  • Hide notifications on your device
  • Set task time estimates before focusing
  • Review progress after each focus session

Statistics & Analytics

What's Tracked

  • Completion Rate: Percentage of tasks completed
  • Daily Streak: Consecutive days with completions
  • Total Tasks: All-time tasks created
  • Completed Tasks: All-time completions
  • Productivity Score: Based on completion rate and consistency

Viewing Statistics

  1. Click "Statistics" in the sidebar
  2. View your current stats and trends
  3. Check your daily streak progress
  4. See productivity insights

Using Stats to Improve

  • Maintain your streak to build consistency
  • Review completion rate weekly
  • Adjust task load based on completion data
  • Celebrate milestones and progress

Profile Settings

Personal Information

  • Name: Display name in sidebar
  • Email: Account email address
  • Role: Organization or context (work, personal, etc.)

Productivity Settings

  • Daily Goal: Target number of tasks per day
  • Focus Time: Default Pomodoro work interval
  • Inbox Zero: Hide completed tasks immediately

Appearance

  • Theme: Light or Dark mode
  • Accent Color: Customize UI color

Data Management

  • Export Data: Download JSON backup
  • Import Data: Restore from backup
  • Clear Data: Reset everything (careful!)

Tips & Best Practices

Daily Workflow

  1. Morning: Review Today view, prioritize 3-5 key tasks
  2. Throughout Day: Capture tasks in Inbox, use Pomodoro timer
  3. Evening: Review completions, plan tomorrow

Task Management

  • Keep task names concise and action-oriented
  • Add context in descriptions, not titles
  • Use tags consistently across similar tasks
  • Break large tasks into subtasks
  • Set realistic due dates

Staying Organized

  • Process Inbox daily (don't let it pile up)
  • Use Board view for project management
  • Review Upcoming view weekly
  • Archive or delete old completed tasks

Productivity Hacks

  • Start with your hardest task ("eat the frog")
  • Batch similar tasks together
  • Use Focus Mode for deep work
  • Take real breaks between pomodoros

Troubleshooting

Data Not Saving

  • Check browser's local storage isn't full
  • Ensure cookies/storage enabled
  • Try clearing browser cache
  • Export data before clearing

Performance Issues

  • Archive old completed tasks
  • Clear browser cache
  • Close unnecessary browser tabs
  • Try a different browser

Mobile Issues

  • Ensure you're using latest browser version
  • Try landscape orientation for better view
  • Clear app cache/data
  • Add to home screen for app-like experience

Lost Data

  • Check if you're in the correct browser/device
  • Look for exported backup files
  • Check browser's "restore previous session"
